Label Review
Get your label checked before it goes to print
A label goes to print in thousands. If a declaration is missing or a claim is worded wrong, you find out from a distributor, an FSSAI officer, or a customer complaint. By then the packaging is already made.
We check labels before they reach the printer. Nutrition panel, ingredient declaration, allergens, claims, the mandatory statements most people miss. You get a marked-up file back with what needs to change and why.
What we check
Every part of the label, against current rules
Mandatory declarations
Name of food, FSSAI licence number, net quantity, batch, dates, importer or manufacturer details, veg or non-veg mark. The basics, but the ones that get missed most often when packaging is designed by someone outside the food industry.
Nutrition information
Format, units, per serve and per 100g, RDA percentages, rounding. This panel has specific rules and designers routinely get the layout wrong.
Ingredient declaration
Descending order by weight, compound ingredients broken out, additives declared with class name and INS number.
Allergen declaration
The eight categories that must be declared, how they are worded, and where they sit on the pack.
Claims
Free from, high in, no added sugar, natural, immunity, and every other claim that carries conditions. Claims are where most labels fail, because marketing writes them and nobody checks whether the product qualifies.
Front of pack and legibility
What applies to your category now, what changes when the 2027 labelling amendments come into force, and whether font size, contrast and placement on the principal display panel actually meet the rules. A compliant label that cannot be read is still a problem.
Send it before the printer does
At artwork stage
The best time. Changes cost nothing except a designer's hour.
Before a new product launch
Alongside product classification and category rules, so the label matches what the product legally is.
When rules change
The labelling amendments taking effect in July 2027 will require changes to a lot of existing packs. If you have artwork in circulation, it is worth knowing now which SKUs are affected rather than in the last quarter before the deadline.
What you get back
- A marked-up version of your artwork showing every point that needs to change
- A written note against each point explaining the requirement and where it comes from
- Corrected wording where a declaration or claim needs rewriting
- A re-check of the revised artwork before it goes to print, included
Common questions
How long does a label review take?
It depends on the product. We assess what the label has to carry first, then give you a timeline before any work starts. If you have a set of SKUs going to print together, tell us the deadline and we will work to it.
What do you need from us?
The artwork file, your product details, and the recipe or formulation. If the label carries claims, we will also need whatever supports them.
Do you test the product?
We do not run a laboratory. Where testing is needed to support a nutrition panel or a claim, we tell you what to test for and coordinate it with an accredited external lab, then review the report when it comes back.
Our packaging is already printed. Can you still help?
Yes. We will tell you what is wrong, how serious it is, and what your options are. Sometimes a sticker is acceptable. Sometimes it is not. It is better to know either way.
Do you handle imported product labels?
Yes. Imported food carries additional requirements around importer details, country of origin and the FSSAI label on arrival.
Can you write the label content for us?
We will correct and rewrite the regulated parts. The marketing copy stays yours, though we will flag anything in it that creates a compliance problem.
